Between the events of 'Saw' and 'Saw II', a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer, only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.

Each kind of scare is rated out of 10. Hover over a score, or use the info button, to see what it means.

Gore
10.0 out of 10,Extreme
Blood, injuries and body horror shown on screen. Violence that happens off-screen barely counts.
Gore 10.0 is extreme (9-10 on the scale):
- Long, explicit and unflinching gore that is the centrepiece
- Nothing is held back from start to finish
1. 1-2Mild
2. 3-4Moderate
3. 5-6Strong
4. 7-8Intense
5. 9-10Extreme
Creepy
7.0 out of 10,Intense

- Unsettling for most of the film, with little relief

4. 7-8Intense
5. 9-10Extreme
Jumpscares
7.0 out of 10,Intense
Sudden shocks designed to make you jump, usually a fast movement or a loud noise. Not slow-building dread (Suspense).
Jumpscares 7.0 is intense (7-8 on the scale):
- Frequent, well-timed jumpscares that are hard to predict
- Quiet scenes rarely feel safe
1. 1-2Mild
2. 3-4Moderate
3. 5-6Strong
4. 7-8Intense
5. 9-10Extreme
Suspense
10.0 out of 10,Extreme
Tension and dread while you wait for something to happen. Not the scare itself when it arrives (Jumpscares or Gore).

4. 7-8Intense
5. 9-10Extreme

Psychological 7.0 is intense (7-8 on the scale):
- Disturbing ideas about the mind, identity or reality
- Present throughout, and leaves you uneasy long after
1. 1-2Mild

3. 5-6Strong
4. 7-8Intense
5. 9-10Extreme

How the overall score of 9.0 is worked out

A film doesn't need to do every kind of horror to be scary, so the overall score only uses its three strongest categories. Any of those three scoring 3 or lower counts as zero and takes off another0.5.
